Dessert at Applebee’s in Laramie, Wyoming

Laramie is a city of some 30,000 people located just off Highway 80 some 45 minutes west of Cheyenne. It has all the chain restaurants you’d expect in a city of that size, including an Applebee’s.

The Applebee’s was located on Grand Avenue, which seemed to be the city’s “restaurant row”, with all the chain restaurants dotting the length of the street. The official address for this Applebee’s is 3209 Grand Avenue.

My friend and I had explored Laramie for a couple of hours and decided we wanted dessert before heading back to Cheyenne. We passed by Applebee’s and decided to give their desserts a try.

It was about 3 pm when we entered Applebee’s. There were a handful of customers in there, but it certainly wasn’t busy – thanks to the time of day.

We were seated on the far left side of the restaurant, in the glassed-in area (see the left side of the photo above), which had the tables for two.

We had been given menus when we’d been seated, and so when our waitress came, quite promptly, we were able to order the Triple Chocolate Meltdown immediately – one for each of us.

I asked the waitress if we could pay her rather than the machine sitting on every table – I will refuse to use those machines as long as possible. I want people waiting on me at a restaurant, not robots.

Play and Pay device

Parents with kids of an appropriate age can put their credit card in this device and their kids can play a variety of games – paying $1.98 to do so.

It took a few minutes for our Triple Chocolate Meltdowns to arrive. I had ordered milk, my friend coffee. The coffee was lukewarm – again probably just because they are not busy at 3 pm and so no fresh pot had been made. The waitress apologized and immediately made a fresh pot.

The lava cake was full of warm fudge, the lava cake itself was warm. The vanilla ice-cream seemed of premium quality. And the fudge attractively placed over it was of the quick drying kind so it was kind of crunchy. (Note to self – find out the specific name for this type of chocolate!)

It was, in a word, delicious. And very filling. Very few people could have a full meal and then eat this entire thing.

It was also expensive. $7 for the Triple Chocolate Meltdown (worth it) and $2 for my milk. My friend had one as well, and coffee which was the same price as the milk – $2. So it was a $20 dessert outing…but oh so worth it.

Ambiance

All Applebee’s are doubtless built to the same architectural plan. A bar in the center with lots of large screen TVs, and tables for families or couples on either side. There were very few people in the restaurant because we were in there between the lunch and dinner hour – so I’m unable to say how loud it would have been during the evening.

Wait staff

We had contact with the Greeter who seated us, and with a waitress. Both were cheerful and efficient. When my friend pointed out the lukewarm coffee, our waitress apologized quickly and went off to get a fresh pot started.  Long story short, we were pleased with the wait staff.

Women’s Bathroom

The women’s bathroom had a door with a handle that you turned, and then pushed to enter. It did not seem excessively heavy for someone elderly to have to deal with.

The bathroom itself was clean.
