Catch the dueling Motones vs Jerseys at the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse in Johnstown, CO, every Sunday and Monday evening from January 20 – February 25, 2019.
Co-created by Kenny Moten & Chris Starkey, Motones vs Jerseys features dueling songs and singing styles by two 1960s throwback singing groups, the Motones and the Jerseys.

The Motones vs Jerseys presents us with a variety of classic songs from the 1960s, everything from “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” for the Motones to “The Lion Sings Tonight” from the Jerseys and everything in between.
It’s an interactive show, too. After each “set,” the audience is invited to vote for their favorite group – via their smartphones. (Unlike theatre, for this show the audience is encouraged to take photos and video and share to social media. And of course clap and cheer for each hit!)
Classic choreography evokes the boy bands look of the 1960s
The show starts out with emcee Jalyn Courtenay Webb introducing the two groups. Then the battle begins, with one or two songs for each group in the following styles:
- Doo Wop
- British Invasion
- Sing Along
- Love Songs
- Battle Royale
After the intermission – and dessert – the show continues with:
- Freaky Friday – in which the Motones and Jerseys swap dance styles
- Lady Mix – in which they cover some classic hits made famous by lady singers of the sixties
- Beginnings
- Finale
For the ladies, who better than a little cover of Tina Turner and Proud Mary? The Motones and the Jerseys first perform the song nice and easy…and then a little bit rougher.
The two groups display dazzling dance moves (choreographed by Jessica Hindsley) and in addition to doing backup vocals for each other for a few songs, also sing together during the Battle Royale.
Emcee Jalyn Courtenay Webb starts us off with the show and introduces the Rounds, but gets in some songs of her own during Act Two. Each of the performers also gets his own solo spot to really show off his pipes.
