Cheyenne’s Sesquicentennial: Celebrations from July to August 2017

The “Magic City on the Plains,” Cheyenne was formally incorporated on August 8, 1867 as a tent city built to accommodate workers building the transcontinental railroad. Within just a few years the railroad and cattle industries had propelled it, for one brief shining moment, into the richest city, per capita, in the world.

The city is planning a variety of events, starting on July 4, to commemorate the city’s founding.
