Chain Restaurant Reviews: IHOP in Loveland, CO

I stopped in at the Loveland Welcome Center and Chamber of Commerce on Saturday – too late to visit the Welcome Center which closed at 5 pm, but I walked around the McWhinney-Hahn Sculpture Park in the rear of the building.

It was a short walk around a pond, but pleasant, with several representative sculptures on display.  (Representative – meaning you can tell what the subject of the sculpture is supposed to be, rather than Abstract – where you typically have no idea unless there’s an explanatory plaque! I prefer representative sculpture.)

I then wanted to have dinner at the Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon, which was just across the road from the Welcome Center, but it was closed. (I’d never heard of the Lonestar Steakhouse and Saloon before and didn’t realize it was a chain. Apparently it’s a defunct chain, with its restaurants having closed in early January 2017.  (http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2017/01/23/9news-lone-star-steakhouse-restaurants-close-in.html).

Fortunately, there was an IHOP just a few yards away across the Welcome Center’s parking lot. Standing facing the Welcome Center, the IHop was to my left. To my right, across another parking lot, was a KFC and a Taco Bell. So the Welcome Center and Chamber of Commerce building is well supplied with surrounding restaurants!

I was seated and my waiter came by to ask what I’d like to drink and presented me with two different menus, one with six pages full of offerings, the other one just two pages, listing all of their pancake creations.

I ordered the Chicken & Three-Cheese Quesadilla, featuring “grilled chicken breast, roasted red pepper, fresh spinach, Pepper Jack, Monterey & Cheddar in a flour tortilla with salsa, sour cream & a freshly grilled Seranno pepper.”

I ordered it without the spinach.

Chicken & Three-Cheese Quesadilla

When the meal was brought, the salsa and sour cream were on the side. The pepper was mixed in with the other ingredients. The quesadilla itself had been cut into four pieces, but was not as attractively arranged as it should have been.

There was plenty of “filling” in the quesadilla – large chunks of chicken and pepper. The filling, as prepared, didn’t stretch all the way out to the edges of the tortilla, but there was enough there that it could have done.

Big chunks of chicken and pepper in my quesadilla

I enjoyed the flavor of this quesadilla – the chicken and peppers were well-seasoned, the cheese nicely melted, and it was hot right from the grill.

Cost, $8.99 for the quesadilla, 58 cents tax, $9.57 total. I thought it was value for money.

Service

There were several wait staff in the restaurant. The greeter came immediately and took me to a booth, and my waiter, a young man, came within a minute or so to take my order. He was cheerful and pleasant.

One of the wait staff, or perhaps the manager, seemed to be on break and was eating at a table out of the way. Staff came and chatted with her on occasion but never to the detriment of the guests.

Appearance

The restaurant interior was attractive and clean. Every unoccupied table had a coffee pot at its edge.  Only about a fifth of the tables had guests. There was a window through which guests seated at certain tables could look into the kitchen and see the upper torsos of the cooks preparing meals.

Bathroom

The entrance door was not excessively heavy. The overall appearance of the bathroom was clean. The stalls were adjacent to each other. There were two sinks – with a very narrow counter space however. The right-hand sink had no water pressure and there was no sign alerting one to this. (Unfortunately, I forgot to inform my waiter of this before I left.)

Overall Impression

I enjoyed my visit. A simple, unpretentious chain restaurant that serves pleasing food in a pleasant environment.

My bill informs me that I can get one short stack of buttermilk pancakes for free when I complete their survey, so I’ll do that now.

Technically, since this is the International House of Pancakes, I should have had some of their pancakes instead of the quesadilla. I will remedy this oversight with my next visit.
